The band Ricky Smith and The Crush has been performing in the Lehigh Valley and Allentown area for the past 3 years.
The three-piece band has worked their way up in the local music scene, to where they are now established as one of the areas top musical acts - performing at some of the area’s most prominent music performance venues, (ie. Mezza Luna, Musikfest, and the new Steel Stacks, to name a few) as well as Community Benefits.
In 2007 Ricky Smith moved to Allentown from the Pittsburgh area getting established now in the Lehigh Valley.
In 2008 he met bassist Craig Fly and Craig 'hit it off' from the start, where the two had similar musical backgrounds and tastes.
Ricky had played guitar/sang in many cover bands throughout the Pittsburgh Tri-State area and was now hoping to simplify things by forming a 'power-trio'.
After trying-out drummers, they met-up with Tom Austin. Tom, originally from Texas, had 'honed' his drumming skills playing with many of Texas’s best.
With the addition of Tom, the band now had the 'winning' combination that would provide the foundation from which Ricky could now show his 'flair' and high-energy as one of the area’s leading rock & roll, blues guitarists.
As the bands following continues to grow, many have described the band's sound as - "exuding tone and such feeling with amazing similarities resurrected to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan".
Ricky chose the name 'The Crush' due to its aptly description of the bands ultimate goal: to 'CRUSH' the negative aspects of today’s music scene - and bring back the fundamentals of 'down & dirty', gritty blues and rock and roll.
